Donation Goal For This Project is $55,000
In countries where primary education is not free, with no statutorily mandated primary education, school age children, especially those from very poor families and orphans, usually end up on the streets, where they run the risk of being co-opted or indoctrinated into the life of crimes and/or sexual immorality. Some may be kidnapped for ritual purposes etc. Some may fall prey to abuses perpetrated by older children. Mercy Widows & Orphans Foundation considers getting children, especially orphans, off the streets. To this end, shelters will be established in Lagos, Owerri and Addis Ababa, and qualified social workers recruited to care for the children. Mercy Widows & Orphans Foundation will establish relationships with appropriate governmental offices, and other non-governmental agencies, in order to harmonize activities and avoid duplication of efforts. In communities where foster care exists, Mercy Widows & Orphans Foundation will work with appropriate government authorities, towards the placement of eligible children. Also, working with the appropriate authorities and adoption agencies, nationally and internationally, Mercy Widows & Orphans Foundation will arrange for the adoption of eligible children. Basic education will be available at the Shelters.
